Show A genuine surprise last evening tho fourth ward choir tod a number of the friends of mr F Ai Brown surprised that gentleman by waiting on him in body at his residence to pay their congratulations to him previous to his leaving to work out the sentence which it was expected would be imposed upon him today to day mr brown was just about to retire for the night when the choir under the leadership of professor edwards commenced to sing one of their choice selections on tho lawn the visitors were invited into the house and when all were seated short speeches appropriate to the occasion were made by elders aco W larkin E II 11 nye T J stevens and bishop E stratford they all spoke in warm and eulogistic terms of brother brown of his integrity and unswerving faithfulness to the cause of right miss marian sang with feeling some day wander back again and miss mercy burton read an original poem specially prepared for the occasion and dedicated to brother brown some resolutions of respect and good withes were read by mr E S U anderaon and the whole of those present which was only a very email portion of brother brawn a friends fully endorsed them during thac evening a beautiful wreath entwined by the loving fingers of hu children was also presented to the recipient of the surprise and hung over his portrait brother brown who was indeed surprised replied in ft few pointed aud touching remarks to the spontaneous expression of good will and sympathy shown him on that occasion and he aleo spoke good words of cheer and comfort bohose present after more singing the parly left for their bomea having accod ollied a mission of love and charity and having shown that those who iunce persecution are not forgotten by their brethren wd sister |
