Show WINDOWS BROKEN ll 11 anton destruction of property on the corner of fifth and young streets some time between oue and two this morning some person or persons as yet unknown wilfully broke several of the windows in tho Horrocks building on the corner of fifth and young streets in this city the damage wag done by throwing rocks and one of the windows broken is a fine large square of plate glass A reward of is offered by mr horrocks to any person who will give information which will lead to the conviction of the offenders A reward of is also offered by the city for the same purpose and wo sincerely trust the miscreants may be ered and brought to justice jn this connection it may be well to state eliat the character of the occupants of the second story of the building in question as well as the nature of the traffic in which they supposed arc to be engaged is alleged to be very unsavory it is said it is dangerous to meddle with sharp edged tools and if the building is rented to women and others who are engaged in grossly immoral practices as is generally considered to be the case in this instance the holder of the property must not be surprised at occasional depredations such places generally constitute a rendezvous for all kinds of hard characters and drunken brawls and conduct is generally a characteristic of the hab etues of such dens of infamy and they who encourage such institutions whether or other wise are deserving of censure and will receive very little pity from the public for any depreciation in value or for any accident which may occur to their property upon which such disgraceful proceedings are practiced practised it is thought that the wanton mischief referred to and which took place last night is the result of the premises in question being the alleged harbor for a party of the demi monde if this is true we think the best thine the owner of that property can do is to oust them and then in all probability the building and its surroundings will be secure lu the meantime we will our former expression that we hope the delpreda tors will be caught as wilful damage to property of any kind and under any condition is disgraceful in the extreme and a stop should be put to it at once the damage will amount to |
