in kent county delaware on october consequently he is now 69 years of age at alie age of ten years he left the place ot his birth in company with his I 1 parents who settled in alie western part of kentucky educational advantages at that day were of a very primitive order and of these the young man was de but nothing daunted lie spent km long winter evenings in studying aad laid the foundation for his after creat at the age of 19 RK williams began life as a merchant but as aliis evidently was not his sphere he relinquished it aid commenced to study law ana at the expiration of eighteen months he passed a creditable examination and in april 1841 ho was licensed to practise in all courts oatlie state As a political debater R K williams was well known nd he has passed through some of the most exciting political campaigns his true democratic principles leaving been enunciated a vigor and enthusiasm seldom seen in slay 1851 judge williams was alwen as the judge of his judicial district which alien embraced eleven counts ties after this time he was nominated ns a candidate for the court he took liis seat n the bench and after an active service extending over twenty tears firm of richards williams continued a leading and practice for years alien mr richards withdrew judge williams ha continued his practice with treat success up to the present time alie present municipal body selected him as city attorney and the duties of that cosm are at alio llio present time ably discharged by him since his residence in utah judge williams lias taken a prominent part in alie politics of alie tarri lory lie is a staunch defender of the rights of the people and lib liberal views and charitable actions have established him as a true friend of the mormon people As i supreme court which took place about six weeks after his arrival in utah mr barratt was admitted to practise in the courts of the territory and he has continued to fol jow liis ever since since his residence in ogden he has been very successful and at the present time he enjoys a most extensive and lucrative practice iio was at one time the assistant district attorney but this position he resigned kind and warmhearted to an unlimited degree mr barratt has made many friends and his course as a public citizen and genial gentleman Is by admired mr barrants Bar law library is the largest outside of salt lake city and his law office is admirably situated in the biowell addition of alie broom hotel on main street mr barratt is a prominent member of the various societies although not a member of the mormon church still in aliese troublesome times his social entertainments are favored with the presence of some of alie local leading members of the Cli for his recognizes recognises no creed caste or sect and it is hoped he will live to continue his magnanimous and truly hospitable conduct for many years to come |
