Show WINES SAVE NAVAL STATION SAN JUAN. P. R., July 20 The American marines at the naval sta tlon here had a lively time today with a cargo of gasoline that. In turn, blew up a coastwise schooner and all but binned up the naval station. The vessel, bound for Ponce with one thousand five-gallon cans of oil, was moving oit of the harbor when an explosion In the hold blew most of her hold Into the water, and setting set-ting the craft afire, forced the crew to Jump over board. One of the sailors sail-ors was Injured. The first excitement over, the marines ma-rines attempted to ' salvage the gasoline gas-oline and by dint of hard work recovered recov-ered many of the cans. These were placed on the naval station wharf, where presently a second explosion occurred and the quarters of the marines ma-rines were wrapped in flames The marines manned the pumps and finally final-ly saved the buildings from destruction. |
