Show CUT IN COAL IN OGr32T. After all, the first real cut in coal has been m?d in O-n. On Monday the Consumers Coal company of this city announced a reduction re-duction of $1 a ton on all grades of coal, making the price on lump coal delivered, $5.25. The attention of tho Herald-Republican of Salt Lake is called to this cut in coal prices in order that it mug see the difference between be-tween the empty victory, over which it did so much boasting, and a triumph of real merit, such as the Standard has won in Ogden. Wc are informed that the railroad reduction promised on coal cannot be mado effective within less than 30 days, at the end of which time, the Herald-Republican, having been pacified, is expected ex-pected to forget there was a coal agitation, and concern itself with long dissertations on Dr. Cook and the north pole. If the Herald-Republican has been honest, now is the time for that paper to join with the Standard in demanding that the railroads rail-roads so reduce the freight rate on coal as to give Utah points the game cheap coal that is supplied Denver. Wc understand that Rock Springs and other coal of equal quality is deliverd in Denver at $4.50 a ton. If the Harriman and Gould roads will reduce the freight 75 cents a ton and apply that reduction to the price coal is now selling In Ogden, then we shall have the same reasonable coal rates now cn-loyed cn-loyed in Denver. |
