Colonel George Gcoghan. deputy superintendent of Indian In-dian affairs for the British government, govern-ment, made a preliminary treaty of peace with Pciitlac. chief of the Ot-tawas Ot-tawas and leader of Ihe great Indian confederacy. By the terms of this agreement the allegiance of the Indians In-dians was transferred from the French to the English, thus securing the eastern Mississippi valley for Anglo-Saxon elvlllratlon.'" A metal ta-blet bearing the foregoing fore-going will be placed shortly upon a monument 'o be erected in Edgar county. Colonel Geoghan met Chief Pontiac In a place known as Hickory Grove and arranged the preliminaries of the great treaty.
