Show DELAY IN POSTAL SAVINGS BANKS. The delays in the inauguration of the postal savings bank system created by Congress four months ago has aroused the Postal Savings Bank League, which persistently advocated the measure from Chicago Chica-go headquarters while it was pending in Congress, to demand of President Pres-ident Taft an explanation. "Why is it that this law enacted months ago, has been allowed to be ineffective and of no avail to the thousand of people who looked to it as a safeguard for their earnings, a long sought beneficence and convenience," the League inquired. . "Can it be possible that the opposition of the American Bankers' Association, which succeeded for so many years in obstructing the enactment of a postal savings bank bill, also is potent now in the unexplained delay attending the execution of the law. It is one of the achievements of your administration that the bill to create postal savings facilities was passed, and an achievement which the Republicans and Democrats both concede as most commendable. But the execution of the law is dilatory beyond that of most enactments of Congress. The achievement achieve-ment is but an empty boast four months from the passage of the bill. We most respectfully inquire when the facilities provided by enactment enact-ment to Congress will be available to their use?" |
