Show turned to Chile under the American flag. This informat: on ws cabled to tho I Chilean government by Senor Yoach-am, Yoach-am, who expecta an answer tomorrow. Almost all rnembej-H of the diplomatic diplo-matic corps and many goverment officials of-ficials offered the condolence to Senor Se-nor Cruz and members of the Chilean ligation. Senor Cruz was 4. years old and had returned to the United States but a year ago from Chile, having visited there after attending the Pan-American congress at Ducnos Ayres last summer. Senor Cruz had ben Chilean minister to the United States for three years. He was at one time professor in the law faculty of the University of Chile, and In 1892 first came to the United State as secretary of the Chilean legation. In 1901 he was counsel for the Chilean government In the hearing of arbitration of various Chilean claims. He was at one time a member of Congress in Chile and minister of war. He is survived only by his wife, a niece of the late Senor flan. Chilean Chil-ean minister to Great P.rltaln, who died a month ago. A brother of Senor Cruz Is now Chlleon minister to L5cl glum. oo WARSHIP TO CARRY BODY OFMNISTER WASHINGTON, Dec. 18 Senor An-i'oal An-i'oal Cruz, envoy extraordinary and minister plenipotentiary from Chile to the United Slates, was stricken with heart failure at 3:43 o'clock this morning, and died ten minutes later. He bad attended the banquet of the American Society for the Judicial Set- tiement of International Disputes last night and retired apparently in good health. When he was stricken phy-slciairs phy-slciairs were summoued, but tne end came before they arrived.
