Show V? .AT HEJ.tS? THE ORPHEUM. There is ' an act nt the Orpheum this week, that for genuine acting, a splendid plot and rich scenic investiture investi-ture one seldom llnds a vaudeville act that is superior to it. -.The act I entitled en-titled "The Picture of Dorian Grey." It Is played by Edward Davis, ably assisted as-sisted by Miss Adele P.lood and Templar Tem-plar Saxe. The story Is a beautiful one and Is admirably bi ought out, representing rep-resenting a man's test ef a woman's love iMr. Davis Is capital. Ills Interpretation In-terpretation of the role is excellent. Miss DlK)d is a beautiful woman and with her extraordinary talent she makes a most lovable Doilan Grey. Saxe's portrayal of the artist Is well done, lie has a rich voice which he uses to good effect in two songs. This act alone Is worth the price of admission. ad-mission. There is another winner on the bill this week. It Is James .Thorton, the author of many favorite ballads, including, in-cluding, "When You Were Sweet Sixteen." Six-teen." He sings a couple of songs and ''talks." That talk kept the audience au-dience in an uproar lor fifteen minutes min-utes Thornton is an entertainer after af-ter his own style. He never cracks a smile from the time he comes on the btage un'il ho makes his exit-then exit-then a genuine Jlnime Thornton smile. In fact several of them are given to the audlem t. Hi i talk ron-taitH' ron-taitH' much new muff. Including that about Count Donl and Prince DeSagen being the Gould-dust twins only they won't work. Jolly Fanny Rice, as merrily and cheerily as ever, furnishes an entertaining enter-taining act with her original creation the Miniature Mimic Stage. The various va-rious Impersonations are cleverly done, each of which does not fail to elicit much applause. Harry K. and Jessie Hay ward have a thoroughly entertaining act entitled "Holding Out,' lu which they are afforded af-forded an opportunity to present some Tvver dialogue and scenes depleting the life of tho performers who are "down and out.'.' Ma re en a. Nevaro and Maroon a, extraordinary ex-traordinary equilibrists, live up to the billboard promise in presenting some remarkable feats of handhalanclng, with a good bit of rich aud wholesome comedy thrown in. We have seen manv cycling acrobatic acro-batic comedians, but there are few In vaudeville that can "do" a more pleasing act in ten minuaes than that ghen by Falfrey and n.irton. The duo has been over the circuit before, but now they are better than ever. While there are no thrillers in their ftunts, there Is that which Is most pleasing. The bill Is above the average and will run the remainder of the week with matinees, on Wednesday and Saturday. Sat-urday. E. T. S. |
