Show PREACHER PICKS JEFFRIES TO WIN Rev. F. R. Wedge of Omaha Thinks the White Man Will Beat Johnson, San Francisco, May IS. A minister of the gospel has come out with a prediction on the Jeff-Johnson fight, claiming that Jeff will win from the "big smoke." Ho Is the Rev. F. R. Wedge of the Monroe Presbyterian church of Om:i-ha. Om:i-ha. Neb. The divine wasn't always a minister, however, and It was only a few years ago that he was known in sporting circles as "Kid ' Wedg quick on his feet and handy with his "dukes." He boxed his wav through college, and from there to the ministry, minis-try, giving sparring lessons to pay-bis pay-bis expenses. "If Jeff is In any condition at all by July, and shows any of his old-time old-time strength ami skill, I think that he will make short work of Johnson," says Hie Rev. Wedge. "Jeffries In his prime." he continued, contin-ued, "was the tenor of all heavyweights, heavy-weights, and has knocked out better fighters than Jack Johnson ever will be. Johnson may be clever, and a fairly hard hitter, but he has never beaten a good big man. It ought to be a greit fight." The Rev. Wedge has a few peculiar Ideas which do not always conform with theise of some of his flock. For one, he thinks the fight game tbo greatest thing in the world if kept clean. |
