Today's first 1 prices of stocks showed general gains oep the last preceding prices, which wpre Unified to small fractions except in the ca.se of some of the low priced railroad slocks. Opening sales of Rock Island were nf 3,000 shares at j .'. 1-2 and 5i3-l. compared with 54 7-8 on Friday. Prices were Inclined to yield after the opening, except Rock Island, which rose cbove 57. Persistent polling of United States Steel, which depressed It 138 to Sf 5-8. created uneasiness among tho traders, and there was a general unloading un-loading of the active Ftocks. Rock Island reacted a point from Its best figures, and Reading, Southern Pacific, New York Central and Colorado Fuel were forced a point below Friday's closing. Prices reached a considerably lower l.uel before there was any let up to the selling, and tho resultant louses ran prettty generally to a point or more In the most active stocks Tho copper group and other specSUs were heavily sold In the second hour.
