Tonight, on tho eve of a conference of Republican senntor3 called to elect a successor to Senator Jotham P. Allds as temporary president of tho senate, Senator Root sent a telegram to Stato Senator Frederick M. Davenport, Daven-port, advocUlng the candidacy of Senator Harvey D. Hinnian of Blng-hamton, Blng-hamton, a staunch supporter of the policies of Governor Hughes, as against Senator Gcorgo A. Davis of Buffalo and Senator George H Cobb of Watortown. both regarded as opposed op-posed to Governor Hughes' policies. The conference early In the day seemed likely to give Cobb a majority of tho Republican votes for this office of-fice and the immediate effect of tho telegram was the adjournment of tho meeting without action until Thursday Thurs-day night |
