Show VERY NARROW ESCAPE OF A MAN IN ECHO CANYON Man Who May Die Charged With Attempting At-tempting to Murder His Wife. Salt Lake, June 5. A complaint was Issued by the county attorney Monday, charging Melvln Karth, or Kerth. who, .Monday, attempted to murder his wife by shooting her three times and then cut his own throat, with assault with Intent to commit murder. Patrolman Thomas Gillespie fcwore to the complaint, which was served on Kerth, who lies In a critical critic-al condition at St. Mark's hospital. Tuesday evening Kerth was reported report-ed to be slightly Improved and faint hopes were held out for Ills recovery, though bis condition Is critical. Mrs. Kerth, the other principal In the bloody tragedy of Monday, was reported to be out of danger Tuesday night and her recovery is expected. Although Kerth was under the influence in-fluence of liquor when the tragedy occurred, and his actions were at-rlbutrii at-rlbutrii largely to his condition, the tlu-orj that there Is another side to the case appears to he well found- d. Charges are' made against Mrs. Kerth to the effect that she was receiving re-ceiving ittentlonjr'froni a man named Marcus Muy. by May's wife. This Is strongly denied, "however, by Mrs. C E. Highland, sister of Mrs. Kerth. who declares that mi account of Keith's neglectfulnesB his wife was compelled to make a living and for a while worked for May, who was a member of the Teddy Hear Cleaning company. Mrs May alleges that her husband bad been paying attentions to Mrs. Kerth. neglecting her, his own wife, and that from the time he met Mrs. Kerth he was never the same to her. Three weeks ngoJhe severed his connection con-nection with the cleaning company and left the city. Mrs. May declares he left her absolutely penniless, with a family to provide for. May at Boise.
