Treat and his friends were thoroughly taken In by the Jokers, and in response to their hurry summons every available man of the police department was called Into action. They were sent to the front In nutomoblles and arrived at the clubhouse In. the country club grounds, only to find that a messenger messen-ger from the bandits was already there restoring the spoils. Treat's coach, n recent Importation from England, and equipped In eighteenth eigh-teenth century' style, with dashing teams, liveried jxihtillons, post horn ami the like, caused all the trouble. Rings, watches, purses .nnl all kinds of trinkets rattled Into the bag, attached at-tached to a long pole, which wo.s presented, and thtu Treat was ordered or-dered to drive on. The "bandits" "fessed up" later and were identified as Joshua Green, a millionaire steam-t.lp steam-t.lp man; John W. Eddy, part owner of the Port Ulakeley mills; Captain Charles Bryden and ' Red" Gleason. a water front character, Impressed to do the "rough talking."
