Show TRIAL IS' NEARLY ENDED Counsel For Defense Will Present His Case On Tuesday Flushing, Jan. 11. All the evidence in the trial of Thornton J. Haines has been token and the case Is expected to go to the jury by noon Thursday after counsel for both Bides have summed up and Justice Crano has laid down the law in his charge. After a brief session of court today, an adjournment was announced until tomorrow morning, morn-ing, to permit Thornton Halns' counsel coun-sel to sum up their evidence to provo that the defendant was not a principal with his brother, Captain Peter' C. Halns, Jr., in the killing of Wm, e! Annls. John F. Mclntyro, chief of defendant's defend-ant's counsel, announced that he would tako all day to present his case, and Proeecur Darria said he would tako all day Wednesday. Wiveg of several Bayeldo Yacht Club members testified today that they saw Mrs. Annls on tho float after tho first shot was fired. Dr. Harris Houghton swore that, after aft-er ho had made an examination of Annls' Injuries, he had heard Captain Halns say: "Of course I did it; there is no doubt about it." Tho stato claims that this is a rational ra-tional statement and; is complete evidence evi-dence that Captain Halns 'was 4&ne at th time and knew the quality and nature na-ture of his act. |
