Show SPRINGFIELD LEGISLATURE HOLD LINCOLN MEMORIAL Springfield, 111., Feb. 11 Senators and representatives Joined today In a Lincoln memorial meeting in the hall of representatives in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln. The enthusiasm of the assemblage was aroused by the strains of military airs, and both Yankee Yan-kee Doodle and 'Dixie were greeted with applause. The governor, lieutenant governor and members of the supreme court were on the platform. Governor Dc-neen Dc-neen said, In part: "Tomorrow will bo the 100th anniversary anni-versary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln. Lin-coln. On land and sea in the uttermost utter-most parts of the earth, men will recall re-call his services and sacrifices for tho republic. Abe Lincoln's career Is tho most remarkable of our annals. Destiny Des-tiny made of him the Instrument to strike the shackles from the slaves, yet ho had not beon trained, either for statesmanship or war. Born In poverty, denied the ordinary opportunities oppor-tunities for education, doomed to hard toll, he broke the bar of circumstances circumstan-ces and wrested with his evil star.
