Show PHYSICIANS TO REFORM FREE DISPENSARIES ' Chicago, May 5. The physicians of this city are preparing to "reform" the free dispensaries here. They hae a sharp stick in pickle for the "impostors" "im-postors" who. they say, have an uu-eouquerable uu-eouquerable aversion to paving physicians physi-cians bills, and resort to a free dispensary dis-pensary whenever they have an ache which needs remedying, a tooth which needs extracting or an appendix which has become fractious. A committee of physicians has been collecting data at the various dispensaries dispen-saries and discovered that half a million mil-lion persons are treated annually without with-out fees. The reform movement contemplated is that the various medical organizations organiza-tions of the city will establish a central cen-tral investigating bureau to co-operate with the charitable organizations in bunting out Impostors. All applicants for free treatment will be asked .to sign their names, give their addresses and answer certain questions relative to their income, etc. A record similar to the card index system of the bureau of charities will be Installed. By referring to this, the officials in charge of free dispensaries will bo able to tell immediately whether wheth-er tho applicants are worthy. If they have fat bank accounts, or If members of their families arc drawing food salaries, they will be asked to remun- crate the physicians. |
