Show FRESHMEN PINCHED FOR THEFT OF WOOD I CLAREMONT. Cal.. Nov. 24 One hundred seven members of the freshman fresh-man class of Pomona college here were technically under arrest at Upland, Up-land, near Claremont on charges of stealing lumber. It was reported the "frosh" had been delegated to supply the wood for a bonfire at a college rally preliminary prelim-inary to the football game at Los Angeles An-geles with Occidental college J. F. Sawyer, city marshal of Up- 1 ami, received a report that a band of men was stealing lumber from bridges tiear Cpland. He Investigated and later oald he found Pomona college freshmen sawing into L0-foot lengths a number of beams which had formed part of the bridges and which had been replaced by concrete work. Tho lumber, however, was still Los Angeles An-geles county property. Sawyer said tho Upland ..ail was too small to hold the freshmen Invoked, In-voked, so he booked the complete membership and turned the list over to J W. Cole, county highway commissioner, com-missioner, for action. |
