Philip Hale, one of llostnu'a latter-day latter-day philosophers, recommends barley water aa a more aenslble drink for hoi weather than "Ire-cold" blends of waters, wa-ters, alrupa, acids, gulped at the marble mar-ble fountains. Mr. Hale'a recipe for bis favorite tipple Is as follows: "For three pints of water you wilt require a tnacupful and a hulf of well washed pearl bnrley, four lumps of sugar and the thin rind and juice of one lemon. I'our boiling wuler over It. cover with a saucer and let It stand till cold: then strain again and aguiu till clenr, and pour Into a Jug." A buttermilk fun adds: "Then set the Jug In a cool place and forget It." |
