Show AMBASSADOR IS EXPLAINING Taking notice of Senator Watson attack on him. Sir Auckland Geddes, j British ambassador to the United. I States, has made a statement as to his speerh made in Chicago, on March 16, in which he explains that the points he made were erroneously de scribed by the Georgia senator. Explaining his reference to the tar iff, Ambassador Getfdes said he simply sim-ply suggested that the foreign trade ', and the prosperity that conies from It "are largely dependent upon the ca pacity of the British empire to buy I your goods and pay for them with ' dollars in America." There is nothing objectionable in ! those words except that Americans are sensitive to any foreign Interference in their domestic affairs bearing on party politics One of the issues of the campaign of 1884 waB a letter written by the British ambassador at the time, touch I ing lightly on tariff.
