Show DR. GEO. HYDE 1 j PASSES AWAY Former Ogden Man, Head of Mental Hospital, to Be Buried Here SALT LAKE. June 23. Following an operation for appendicitis. Dr. George ES, Hyde, 57 years Of age. superintendent sup-erintendent r the state mental hospital hos-pital at Provo, died yesterday after- 1 noon at a local hospital. While on a trip east with his wife three weeks ago, he became 111 and decided to go i to Buffalo, X. Y , to undergo an op- ' eration. On arriving at Buffalo, however, the doctor felt somewhat improved, and derided t return to Provo. He tfas taken seriously ill on the way home and upon arriving In Salt Lake went Immediately to d local hospital, where the operation was perfo-tned. Dr. Hyde .mm born In Manchester, England. ii" received his early edur cation in England, and came to this country when 1 7 years of age, first' settling in Ogden. For more than 10 j years ho was the private secretary to the superintendent of the 'A. C. M, 1 at j Ogden. He was married to Hosabell I Farr In gden In November, 1S8C, who survives him Later Mr. If;. went to the University Univer-sity of California He was graduated from that Institulon with an M L. de-gree de-gree in 1896. Following his graduation, nr. Hyde went t-i Rexburg Idaho where he was actively engaged in the practice of medicine for 13 year.-. While in Idaho, Ida-ho, he was th president of the statu board of health for two years, and from 1912 to low, was Bupcrlntenenl of Idaho State Mental hospital. Later he went east and took a post graduate course in medicine at Harvard univi r-slty. r-slty. In September, 191C. heuus appointed appoint-ed superintendent of the mental hobpi-tal hobpi-tal at Provo by Governor Spry to fill the vacancy made by the resignation of Dr. J. H. Calder. He served throughout the remainder of Governor Gover-nor Spry s term and through the whole of Governor Bamberger's term and was reappointed by Governor Mabey. During his Bervice at the mental hospital. Dr. Hyde brought about many Important improvements, the j most Important of which was the new i building. He provided entertainment.! gymnastics and other forms of recrea- lion, lor the inmates of ins Institution. Besides two brothers. Walter Hyde of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and )Bonar.i I Hyde of Salt Lake, and two sisters. I Mrs. Harry Randall of California and' Mrs. A. D Cutting of Salt Lake, he is survived by the following sons and daughters; George Hyde of Black-dot, Idaho, Mrs. C. La.C French of American Ameri-can Falls. Idaho Mrs. Myrtle Phap-sher Phap-sher of Ogden. Mrs. Afton Smoot and Mrs. Clarice Hall of Provo. The body will bo taken to Provo today. to-day.
