Show 'RACES BEFORE SPEEDING TRAIN Motorist Stranded on Grade Crossing at Riverdale Heads Down Tracks Occupants in a closed automobile 1 narrowly escaped death shortly after af-ter 7 o'clock this morning at the Union Un-ion I'acific railroad crossing at Riverdale, Riv-erdale, according to an announcement made today by local railroad officlfl.ll Train No 21, from the-east, missed, hitting the automobile by inches, as, ' it sped toward the Union station. The owner of the automobile and the occupants could not be determlneil by I railroad offlciaLs, but they are making, an investigation. The machine became stalled on the tracks and as tho train approached the driver managed to .start the engine j Hull a sudden jump, the machine' was, directly in front of the train, which! was traveling about 40 miles per hour.! The driver beaded the oar down the tracks, the machine finally clearing' the rails. As It swung to the clear, It : crashed into a block signal, damag-1 Ing the autpmojbile to a small extent and pu'Micr the 1, jock signal out of commission. |
