Show R.O.T.C. TAKES FORWARD STEPS High School Cadet Unit Opens Year With New Enthusiasm The R. b. T. C unit of tho Ogden High school Is starting the new year with Increased "pep" and enthusiasm and with tho determination to be ranked among the best of tho honor schools at the end of tho schoolyear. The, area comprises the states of Utah, Wyoming, Idaho. W ashington, Orepor. California and Novada. The commandant of the R. O T. C. hae received a challenpo from the commandant of the K. . T. C- of the Boise Illch school for a competition on the galley range between tho sponsors spon-sors of tho O. H. S. R. O. T.-C. unV. and tho apobfOrS of the Boise High school. This ovent will take place In February. Plans are being formulated for a big R. ". T. C. tournament and military mili-tary ball to take place tho latter pari of February. Each company will bo assigned .some iipeclal feature In lino with choir training. Cadet Captain Jerome B Jamcr having dtsplayed special aptitude anl ability, has been appointed assistant Instructor on the staff of the P M. S. & T. and Is entitled to wear he goll Inslgna of his rank. Tho other as- slstant Inatructors appointed so far thus year are Cadet Major Emmet t Llpplncott and Cadet Captain Herbert Adams. Authority Is expected shortly from tho war department to enroll a company com-pany of the freshmen in tho R. O. T. C unit. They will bo Issued uniforms and given the first year course of training.- About 60 freshmen arc expected to avail themselves of the opportunity t.o Join. Sufficient uniforms and equipment are on hand to outfit this nu mber. A new system has been adopted in connection with tho officers' and noncommissioned non-commissioned officers' school All officers of-ficers and non-commissioned officers aro required to attend until qualified to lnntrut in he subject being glen anil are excused form further allr-n-danco until a new subject is taken up when they are required to attend again until qualified The disciplinary squad has been discontinued dis-continued and all cadets star., the new year with a clean slat- It Is hopd that It will not be necessary to reestablish re-establish thLs squad.
