Show Leaders In Lumber j Industry Meet To Encourage Building CHICAGO. Jan. 5. National leaders of the lumber in-dustn in-dustn are meeting here this morning to consider ways and means of stabilizing building costs and to encourage building build-ing construction projects. The conference was called by Edward Hines, of the Hmes Lumber company, but illness will prevent his attending. "Building must go on if lumber is to be sold.' Mr. Hines said in calling the conference. "We arc five years behind in building Building must be stabilized. Lumber prices are below cost of production just now. Mr. Hines said the lumber dealers would take stock ot their business, including labor and living cocts and wages pa ! together with the consideration ot work with reasonable l eduction from the present wage scales, rather than high wages and periods of idleness. According to Mr. Hines, alter activities are begun, prices will be determined by supply and demand. |
