Show EXEMPT NEW HOMES FROM TAXES, PLAN TO ENCOURAGE BUILDING WASHINGTON. Jan. 28 Tax exemption for all j new dwellings for a period of at least fifteen years as a means of stimulating building, was advocated by Lawson Purdy, former president of the New York. City board erf taxes and exemptions, in an address here today before the housing conference called by the chamber of commerce oi the United States. Such an exemption would be a substan-I substan-I tial inducement to builders. i1r. Purdy said, adding that it was fully warranted to the present housing shortage. Remission of taxes on new construction could not be considered a discrimination against owners of existing property, prop-erty, Mr. Purdy declared, in view of the fact that construction construc-tion costs are above normal. Expansion of private building association operations throughout the country as a means of increasing opportunities opportuni-ties for home building was advocated by K V. Haymaker, former hnancial adviser of the United States housing corporation. cor-poration.
