M. Clemens of diamonds dia-monds Valued at $1'S50 In a carndor of the Xewhousp hotel early In thi morning of September 3. the police department won out in one of the hardest fought cases of the past y ai Clemens was brutally beaten after he had been forced at the point o"f a gun to put Up his hands, according to his testimony. He said that Wallace, Wal-lace, whom he identified as the assailant, assail-ant, struck him over the head with the barrel of the pistol as he fhleed his hands and twice more with the barrel and once with the butt of the weapon after he had fallen to the floor of the hallway. Clemens, according ac-cording to his story, feigned unconsciousness, uncon-sciousness, but was aware of the tearing tear-ing away from his tuck of his tie j containing two diamonds, one worn in view and the other hidden on the under side of the tie. |
