Show QUILT QUIL T the tile massachusetts solons safi ses i lions to vermont Solon niMs ianis bill tho the follo following wim foolish legislative quit patches were reported by T sir mr hoar from the committee on the judiciary ordered to bo be print ed and intended to be proposed to the bill S 1283 to amend an act entitled an act to amend section 6 fly three hundred and fifty two 0 of the revised statutes of the united states in reference to bigamy and fo for r other purposes purpose q approved march 1882 viz strike out section 18 and insert in lieu thereof the following follow follo winz ing SEC 18 that tho the provisions of section nine of eaid said act approved man march h twenty second eighteen hundred and two in regard to tho the regis registration of voters and the conduct of elections and the powers and duties of the tile board therein mentioned shall continue and remain opera operatic ope rati tiye e until the tile provisions and laws therein referred to lie made and enacted by the legislative Assem assembly bl of eaid said territory of utah shall have been made ant and enacted by said assembly an and d shall have been approved by con art grass ra add as additional sections the following lONT inQ sec see 19 that whoever commits adultery shall be punished by imprisonment sn ent in the penitentiary not pa ex exceeding cedi 02 three years and when the tho act acts is co committed na bitted between a married wom woman an anda and a man who is unmarried both parties t ties to such act shall be deemed 9 guilty of adultery and when such act ia is committed between a married man and a woman who is unmarried the man shall be deemed guilty of adultery sec see 20 tb that at if an unmarried man or woman commits fornication each of them shall be punished by imprisonment not exceeding six months or by fine not exceeding one hundred dollars sec See 21 that commissioners appointed i anted by the tile supreme court and mil district brict courts in the territory of ufah shall possess and may exercise all the powers and jurisdiction that are or may be possessed or exercised by justices of tho the peace in said territory under the laws thereof of and the same am powers conferred bylaw on commissioners appointed by circuit courts of the united states sec see 22 that the marshal of said territory of utah and his deputies shall possess and may exercise all the powers 1 su in executing the laws of tho un united cited states possessed and exercised by sheriffs and their deputies as peace officers and they shall cause all kofl offenders against the law in his view to enter into rc recognizance cognizance to keep the peace and to appear at the next term of the court ha haung ing jurisdiction of the case and to commit to jail in in case of failure to give such recognizance quell and suppress assaults and batteries riots routs af frays and insurrections and ana shall apprehend and commit to jail all felons sec see 23 that the office ice of T territorial arri i superintendent of district schools created by the laws of utah is hereby declared vacant and it shall I 1 be the duty of the Su supreme court of eaid aid territory to appoint a territorial superintendent of district schools who shall I 1 possess cism and exercise all the tile powers and duties imposed by the laws laws of said territory upon alio territorial superintendent of district schools and who ahall receive the fame salary and compensation which shall be he paid out ont of the treasury of 1 said territory and the tile laws of the tile territory of utah providing for the method of election and appointment I 1 of such territorial superintendent of district schools are hereby suspended until the further action of congress ahall be had in respect thereto the I 1 said superintendent shall have power to prohibit the use in any district i I 1 school of an any book of a tec i character or otherwise unsuitable 1 1 said luperi superintendent dent shall collect and classify statistics an I 1 other tion respecting the district schools in a j said Territory showing their progress the tile whole number of children of afi school age tile number who attend j s in ill each year ye ir in the tile respective i counties coun tub and average e length of time of their attendance the number of teachers tear herd and the compensation ion pid paid I 1 I 1 to tho frame the number of teachers v lie aro Mor mormon mons the number who are so called gentiles the number of mormon parents and the number of children of bo fco called gentile parents aud and their respective average attendance at it school all of which statistics and iti information formation shall be annually reported to congress through the tile governor of said territory and the department of the interior |
