Show old ole off A complaint was sworn out before L 13 hunt justice of the peace st charles precinct on june by peter esterline Os and a warrant was duly issued forthe arrest of ole hansen and placed in the hands of constable V 31 who in c company with S cleveland started at sunrise june for hansena hansens mill where ole was supposed to be rusticating they arrived at the mill about 7 and found ole at home and in bed and on being confronted with the officer smiled one of his blandest blankest blan dest smiles and sue suc combed without any further ado oles father appeared appeared on the scene and in a very demonstrative manner informed the constable that ho he wished him to take not only ole but oles wife and children this was more than vince had bad bargained for and more than ho he had warrants for but being a very vary good natured fellow and in in order to keep peace in in the family he concluded ca U ded to take the whole outfit so bundling the children in the bottom of the wagon box ole and his wife in the back seat and the two officers in the front seat which seat would have been a very uncomfortable one had the officers been aware that ole had a it 44 calibre revolver in his shirt bosom which he be might have used on the officers had he felt so disposed but he lie preferred a more peaceable escape so making aiex an excuse that he lie wished to go in the willows he got permission of the officers to do eo so and forgot to come back A posse was sent for to st charles who arrived in due time and diligently searched tho the willows but without avail as ole had about an hours start through the thick underbrush before tho the posse arrived olo is an old baud hand at bushwhack in inythe the willows seem to be his stronghold lill and without good dogs to follow up his tracks it is almost impossible to find him where the brush is so abundant as it is where ho he made his escape if our reports in regard to his escape are correct the officers made some very serl serious ous mistakes he should have been disarmed handcuffed and closely guarded carded as its the officers must have known the character of the man and the trouble he had already div given e othar officers and the route b by y wh ich th they ey had bad to convey him b being e i rig th thickly akly covered with willows and underbrush making it very hard to find him if once lost sight of bear jake |
