Show D ar G R R the road to be continued from salt lake ake city to ogden we have frequently insisted not only upon the probabilities but also on the certainty of the denver fe rio grande R IL being extended as far as ogden city the natural railroad center of the rocky mountain mountains regi region on our view has been met with incredulity and even with poll positive t lve of opposition position and demonstrative denial there therefore abre we are doubly pleased to have a sill lake con te tern omry confirm our anticipations made over a year ago we read in tb the e S I L H herald erald of this morning in in con conversation with a gentleman kroml prominently bently identified with the road a few days al aco ro as to the intention to continue to ogden he said I q have come to the conclusion that to build to salt lake without going to ogden would bo be but half completing theroan the road it would in other words be extremely foolish therefore no one need be surprised if the croaa road should lie a pushed on as far as a orden it is known that tho the surveyors are now dow crosa cros sectioning and thata route has been det determined upon to ogden and it can be stated to a certainty that the work of g grading ding will very shortly commence the object being to get it through without any delay tho intention is to let the fart farmers ners build the road as far as they want to and each in man will have an opportunity t of doing the work on his own land iche if he chooses the reason for this is that the company desiro that those farmers who have teams and want to employ them through the winter can secure profitable employment all through the winter for res their hands bands and their teams irwill it will also be an advantage to the farmers thus taking contracts for the re reason ason that a man who owns la land d through which the road passes panes will be acx us that its little damage be done as kible aible and the company is anxious that no moro more injury bo be done to a mans mail farm than is absolutely ne necessary ces we have reason to believe that farmers wanting contracts for grading can get got them any day now and can begin work just as soon as they cleme one important poi point nt connected with th this i e extension tension of the D R G IL R to tho the junction city is the number of rails it will wil I have between here and the capital all the indications are that three rails will be laid making the road passable for both broad narrow guage the latter being the character of the road read from denver to the capital of utah the third rail will enable the tile D R G company to take central pacific cars directly to salt lake city without transferring at ogden in connection with this point it will be remembered that the D R G R R is generally presumed to work in understanding and alliance with the C P R IL although nothing official has been made known to this effect at any rate the D R G is run in opposition to the TJ P combination which by the way accounts for the vigorous assaults it has lately been subjected to by the N Y world commonly supposed to be ja jay goulds Gould organ le be that as it may the D R G R R will prove a benefit to this territory y whose everin ever in creating increasing productions agricultural industrial tri aland and mineral call fora for a corresponding expansion of the transportation por tation facilities the presence cresence in the territory of gen generah dodge one of the principal officials bials of the new road at this time confirms the belief belief that every reasonable exertion ia is making to crowd the road through and it is stated by those in a position to know and that too in a confident tone that the road will be complete and in running running order between denver and salt lake city some time in r february next in conclusion we leam learn from the S L herald that the line determined upon far for the D R G between this city and salt lake ia is west of theU the utah tali central the whole distance and will be about three miles shor shorter tor the denver A rio grande people do not seem to entertain the idea that they will injure the utah central by paralleling all eling it of course they believe il it will DC e to their own advantage advantage I but hold that there will be an increase in trade and traffic and that they with the other road will get their share and do well and their prosperity will be at the same time an index and a stimulus of the development of ogden city and weber county |
