creation of northern railroad balli ond it is now alio county scat of Beaver liL ad county montana it is is also at present alie terminus of the tho thorold road it was first located in october 1880 and is built on bea verlic hd river ifa i ii beaverhead valley and is surrounded in the east enst by the euby ruby mountains on the west by the rattlesnake hills on the north by the mccarty mountains and on the south by the bannock mountains the altitude of the town is about feet above sea level and its distance from ogden city is three bund hundred reil forty seven and siv six tenths miles the present population is sa iltz bo be from to ZOO two thirds of whom arc are freighters transient residents resident se who obtain a living by hauling machinery and general merchandise from here to butte helena virginia city boac man and other martof parts of the territory therease there Ther eare are about fifty farmers and stock tock raisers in this latitude hiti atudo the agriculturists can raise wheat barley oats and some very nice potatoes but they do not yet raise raise any fruit although there arc are in a number of places around here trees growing andronie and somo sonie apple trees it is expected will commence bearing in the near future the balance of the people here are engaged in ill merchandising chan dising and about one half of this caw consist of those who have followed up ill the railroad fro from in the time of its construction after it left franklin idaho until it reached this place the weather liere here is much colder than it is in utah the winters are severe though they do not al as a ge general theral thing leave much snow but the th frost is intense RIVER abounds in fish of various kinds herring trout gr aylings etc game also is s very abundant consisting of elk antelope black tail and wl white tail deer mountain sheep and moo moose lse in winter they descend from tho the mountains in ill vast herds and b band and together in the tile
