Show I i t THE IMPRESSIONS OF A WOMAN. Woman 8ayo About Western Canada. Although many men bare written to this paiJcr legal am the prospect of Western Canada and ita great possibilities, It may not bo uninteresting to giv the experience of a woman What aet-Uo- r, written to Ur. M. V. Melons, the agent of the government at Detroit. Mich. If tbe reader wiabea to get farther Information regarding Western Canada It may be obtained by writing any of the agent of the- Government whose name is attached to the advertisement appearing elsewhere tn this paper. The foliowing i the letter referred fe: HiUdown, Alberta, Feb. S, 03. Dear Sir I have been her now nearly five years, and thought I would write yeu a woman's impression of Western Canada in Alberta. There are several ranchers in this district who. In addition to taking car of their cattle, carry on farming as well; their herds of cattle number from 100 to 200 or 300 head, and live out all wiater without any shelter then the poplar bluffs, and they come tn In the spring in good order. Moet of the ranchers feed thvir csttle part of tbe time, about this time of the year, but I have seen the finest fat cattle I ever aaw that never got a peck of grain-o- ily fattened on the grass. You see I have learned to talk farm since 1 came here farming Is tbe great business here. I know several In this district who never worked a day on the farm till they came here, and hare don well and are getting well - off. I think this will be tbe garden of the Northwest some day, and that day not eery far distant There has been a great change since we came here, and there will be a greater change In the nest live years. The winters are all anyone could wish for. We have very little snow, and the climate Is fine and healthy. Last summer was wet tut not to an extent to damage crops, which were a large average yield and the bay was Immense and farmer wore a broad smile accord- ingly. We have good schools, the government pays 70 per rent of the expense of education, which Is a great boon la a new country. Of course churches of different denominations follow the etUements. Summer picnics and win ter roucetu cue all well attended, and as much, or more, enjoyed as in the Fast Who would not prefer the pure Air of this climate with its broad Acres of Baa farms, its rippHng streams, its besutlful lakes, its millions of wild flowers. Its groves of wilt fruit of exquisite flavor, its streams and lakes teeming with fish and its prairies and bluff with game, to the crowded and tiff state of society la tbe Fast 1 would like to go home for a visit oRit time, but not to go there to live, gveu if presented with the beet farm la Michigan. Beautiful Alberta, I will never leave It And my verdict is only a repetition of all who have settled in this country. This year I believe will aid many thousands to our population. 'And If the young men, and old men also, knew how easy they could make a home free of all Incumbrance In this country, thousands more would have eettled here. I would sooner beve 160 acres here than any farm where I came from In Michigan, but the people in the East are coming to a knowledge of this country, and as they do, they win coma West In thousands. All winter people have been arriving in Alberta, and I suppose in other parts as well, which la unusual, so we expect a great rush when the weather ' gets warmer. We have no coal famine here. Coal eaa be bought In the town for $3 to 3, according to distance from the mines, Ini many haul their own coal from the mines, getting It there for 60 cents to a dollar a ton. Very truly yours, Mrs. John McLachlaa. (Signed) end a man and hH God, Gc1 hi wib be bo nr M of E, Kid. r Reuben G Miller semi-annuSEVENTY-THIRsues end Elder. W C. Very few persons, says a French jrper, know the origin of tbe head-tes- a which so many nuns wear, and thlch hides so much of their faces. I wat formerly the custom for contents to send nuns to the various Ijties and towns for the purpose of pllecting Alms, and as a rule two una, one old and the other young, tent to each place. They wore small tops, and were popularly known as The agonizing, itching, and burning of the skin, as in eczema; the frightful scaling, as in psoriasis; the loss of hair, and crusting of the scalp, as in scalled head; the facial disfigurements, as in pimples and ringworm; the awful suffering of infants, and anxiety of worn-pparents, as in milk crust, tetter and salt rheum, all demand a remedy of almost superhuman virtues to successfully cope with them. That Cuticura Soap, Ointment, and Resolvent are such stands proven beyond all doubt No statement is made regarding them that is not justified by the strongest evidence. The purity and sweetness, the power to afford immediate relief, the certainty of speedy, and permanent cure, the absolute safety and great economy have made them the standard skin cures, blood purifiers and humour remeefies of the civilized world. ut m certtn Ash Wednesday two of them succeeded in obtaining admission to the kings palace In Paris, and though the monarch and his courtiers were at dinner, they did not hesitate tp solicit alma from them. One of the aunt was very pretty, and the young nobles w"howere feasting cast such bold glances at her that she blushed pith shame, whereupon the king rose from the table, and, taking his napkin, folded It In two and placed in on her head In such a manner that it ooncealed her blushes. Ever since that day. It Is said, this kind of headdress has been worn by nuns. Prince Writes Ballet Muelc. I have suffered for some time from an excess of uric acid in the blood ; and since the middle of last year, from a severe attack of Eczema, chiefly on the scalp", face, ears and neck, and on one limb. I was for several months under professional treatment, bnt the remedies prescribed were of no avail, and I was gradually becoming worse, my face was dreadfully disfigured, and I lost nearly all my hair. At last, my wife prevailed upon me to try the Cuticura Remedies, and I gave them a thorough trial w ith the most satisfactory results. The disease soon began to dissappear, and my hair commenced to grow again. A fresh growth of hair is covering my head, and my limb (although not yet quite cured) is gradually improving. My w ife thinks so highly of your remedies that she has been purchasing them in order to make presents to other persons suffering from similar complaints, and, as President of the Bible Women Society, has told the Bible jvotnen to report if any case should come under her notice when a poor person is so afflicted, so that your remedies may be resorted to.
