A largo number of relics of the railroads, rail-roads, which are now in Omaha, were offered, a list of which was read al the meeting. So large was this list, .and so many more are to be added by the Southern Pacific line and from other sources, that It was decided to provide la relic hall and ask the railroads to permit them to be k' pi en exhibition in Ogden for a month or more after the celebration. The special executive committee will be charged with the responsibility of providing a fireproof relic hall. Old Engineer Coming W. M. Piggott, chairman of the parade pa-rade committee, reported that elaborate elabor-ate plans for the parade, which will be one of the chief features of the celebration, had been worked out In tentative form, one feature of which is to he a float representing the driving driv-ing of the golden spike In this float Is to be a replica of the Jupiter Engine En-gine No. 60, which was the first to pass over the Joined rails that linked the east and west. This will be built at the local railroad shops and "both of the engines will have steam up when they appear In the float. The' engineer who droe Jupiter No. 60 is still alive and will be with the replica of his faithful old Jupiter of historic fame. One of the old stage drivers who earned his living under constant danger of death from Indians and robbers will also be In the parade. The parade will typify each historical histor-ical epoch of the Golden West, from the days of the trappers to the present pres-ent time, including many educational features. Among the educational features fea-tures will be a log school house, among the floats. Features of modern education edu-cation will also be included All the larger children of the public schools will be asked to form a unit of the parade This matter will be taken up at once with the school authorities. At the meeting this morning it was decided to abandon the voting contest for a queen and bridesmaids. As this feature had been given but little publicity, pub-licity, and as the necessary funds for all contingencies have been or will be provided for, it was deemed wise to abandon such a plan. As Ogden would be the only city of the state that could well take part in it, some delicate sit- J nation to arise. W. J. Critchlow was appointed secretary sec-retary to take tho place of Mrs. R.I B. Porter, who sent word that she; could not act in that capacity on account ac-count of the time needed. |
