Show VETERANS OF IC ORGANIZE AS THE IEH LEGION SALT LAKE. April 24 Call for the first meeting of the Utah branch of the Aruerican Legion, to include vet erans of the world war, was issued yesterday by Ceneral Richard W. Young, following a meeting of the committee at tne Commercial club. The Salt Lake convention of the veterans vet-erans will be held Thursday evening, May 1, with tho Commercial club as meeting place. All men who served with the army, navy or marine corps during the war, abroad or in the United Spates, are urced to he present at the meeting,1 which has been called under instructions instruc-tions from the national organization headquarters. Eight delegates to attend at-tend th national convention to be held in St. Louis. May 8. 9 and 10, will be selected from the service men present. pres-ent. The purpose of the American Legion, it was aunounced. among other things, is to bring together on an equal footing, foot-ing, all men of the service and to keep alive the association and spirits of brotherly comradeship that has grown up through service In the field. With this end in view, the distinction due i . wm to rank in the service will play no part in the organization A colonel or corporal, or private, it is said, will stand on equal footing. In fact, one of the aims of the society will be to foster and encourage the spirit of genial comradeship and unity which the distinction of the rank rendered ren-dered impossible in active service. i Jil Those present at yestercay s meet ing were General Young, chairman of the committee, who presided; Major Harold I' Fabian, Major Wesley E. Following th meeting the committee commit-tee gave out the following statement: "This call marks the beginning of a great organization, and the genera uons to come will point with pride to an ancestor whose name appears od its membership roll.
