Show SURPRISE VISIT ' PAID WOOLLEY Former Chairman of Republican Republi-can Central Committee Honored Last Night Approximately fifty Republicans.! ineludlng many candidates who were i victorious during the recent election, j participated In a "surprise' visit Inst rilghl upon Arthur Woolley. former chairman of the Republican central' committee of XVebcr county, and with gifts and talks expressed their appreciation appre-ciation for the efficient work done by. me cnairman cninr:r me . m Not an inkling of the aurpri.se ' had reaehed Mr Woolley when the Re-publicans Re-publicans filed Into the Virginia apartments, apart-ments, where Mr. und Mrs. Woollej reside. The visitors were seated In a elrcle in the apartment and then Mr. Wpolley was suddenly pushed through the door to face his guests. Fred Melssner acted as spokesman for the visitors and with eloquent words, in wht h hn paid high tribute to the services performed by Mr. Woolley, presented the chairman with" three paskages. The first contained a solid gold watch, engraved w ith an I appropriate inscription, with a chain md a gold case for an Elks' membership member-ship tard. The second package con- tulncd i wallet, from which the edges of a number Of bank notes protruded, I and also a list of names of the per-ions per-ions who had donated lh gifts. Thf- third package contained cigars,; which Mr. Melssner explained should be opened Immediately. This was done and everyone present, with the. exception of the women, of course, I turned the affair Into a smoker. Mr Woolley responded to Mr Meiasner's talk and refused to accept the credit for the great success of the party at the polls. lie declared the combined efforts of all thos- who worked in the campaign should have the credit for the Victor The party disbanded after a general gab-fest In which the aothitlos of the campaign were trotted out and given an airing.
