Roosevelt, when shown that portion of Senator Harding's speech at Marlon yesterday In which the Republican candidate denounced the alleged rape of Halt and San Do-nilngd Do-nilngd and which he said was recently recent-ly admitted and boasted by Mr. Roosevelt, Roose-velt, prepared a statement denying Senator Harding's charges. Mr. Roosevelt's statement follows i When this Marlon speech was , shown me I immediately sent Senator Harding the following telegram. "Regret "Re-gret to sc.- in today s speech you have put Into my mouth an alleged statement state-ment about the votes in the league of natlns of Haiti and San Domingo which i ii.ui already publicly denied 'and which denial was published in all I leading newspapers. "Mr Harding has been a member of tho senate since the United States was compelled to intervene In Haiti and San Domingo to prevent a recurrence recur-rence of conditions at our ver '.oors Which were deemed intolerable." said Mr Roosevelt "This action also met : with no protest wtth the senate but 'was done with the fun knowledge of everybody. As I remember It the United States was obliged to restore order in Haiti In 1915 and In San Domingo Do-mingo shortly after. Since that time there has been no efrort to conceal the United States' policy of helping these countries to get back on their j feet.
