Show 'MilDATES'TB BE CHECKED UP Secretary of State Says They Will Be Required to Report Re-port Expenses ' SALT LAIvE, SepL 21, Harden Rennlon, Kecrotary of state, yesterday Instructed II. Tt. Roberts, his phicf deputy, to check up on all nominating conventions for which his office is the filing office, and to ndtiry all persons who were candidates bofore the respective re-spective assemblages for nomination that each Is a "candidate" within the meaning of the corrupt practices act. Tho corollary of this, tho "candidates" aro to be told, Is that, If they incurred any expenses, or If any expenses were Incurred in their behalf in the effort lo land tho nomination, oven though unsuccessful, they should fllo statements state-ments covering thoso expenses with tho office of the secretary of state The same would apply to any candidates who had received contributions to funds to aid their candidacy. Following such notification, if any of the "candidates" fall to file statements, state-ments, and it Is di.vrovcicd that tho hae Incurred expenses or received campaign contributions Mr Bennlon proposes to lay the matter before the county attorneys in the rcspectivo counties for auch action as they may deem fit. |
