Show I ..Theatres LADIES FIRST." , "Ladies First." at the Ohpreum theatre the-atre last night lasted about 30 -minutes longer than the average road sliow but it was so all-fired enj3yable that it is doubtful if anybody noticed it was an unusually long show. "How can she do it?" was the question ques-tion asked by scores last night after they had laughed for nearly throe hours at the comedy ok Nora Hayes and Al Roberts and the others of the cast, .but especially Nora Bayes. Nora is billed as America's premier singing comedienne. After seeing and hearing her last night it seems unlikely un-likely ihat the press agent exaggerated. exaggerat-ed. It is doubtful if any better comedienne com-edienne has been seen in Qgdcn. Those old-time theatre goers who were Charles Hoyt fans will recall the plot of "Ladles First" for the authors make nojjones about announcing they wrote the present musical plav fi-om Mr. Hoyt's "A Contented "Woman." Benny Holmes is induced to run Tor mayor on one ticket and the Woman's party puts up his sweetheart In opposition. oppo-sition. There tire plenty of diverting incidents during the progress of the play, some clever dancing, excellent singing and to top it all there is the unusually fine work of Nora Baves. The play is filled with catchv "melodies "melo-dies and they are sung in a manner far superior to the standards of the average av-erage musical comedy. There Was an unusually large crowd to enjoy "Nora and her associates and all who wore not there missed a real theatrical treat. on |
