Show EXTREMELY ACTIVE Mira e Assay ers of Salt Lake Predict Much Development of Newv Properties and Old Ones Indications point to an extremely active ac-tive year In mining with new properties proper-ties being developed and old districts being revived, according lb the news letter of R. PI. Officer & Co., assay-ers assay-ers of Salt Lake. The letter: "Present indications all point to an extremely active year in mining. Already Al-ready our laboratory is receiving samples sam-ples for assay from parts of the mining min-ing country which have been inactive for years. New camps arc springing up and the, old camps ore reviving to a much greater degree than has been expected. We have, chocked our own experience by inquiry of the smelters in this region, and we find that all of them are anticipating a Very active year. Already some of the "smelters have blown In extra furnaces, and be-hind be-hind this early -activity is tho assur-anco assur-anco of largo tmslnoss" in mining. "We have been interested to receive letters from prospectors from noinls so far distant as Oregon and Minnesota, Minne-sota, and all speak of- their intention to get into the field early this year. "Among recent interesting samples sent us for determination we received a lot which showed total gold and silver sil-ver values, based on smelter calculations, calcula-tions, ranging from $S5 to $524. These come from a new property in Nevada, and we mention this fact Indicative of the results which the high prices in lead and silver are sure to bring forth. "The passage of tho leasing bill has done much to stimulate interest in oil and oil shale. Even though much of the shale, in Colorado and Utah is still covered with snow, yet samples' for test arc, already coming in, and. enlarged en-larged activity is certain to follow-shortly. follow-shortly. "Recent oil-shale samples from the Colorado field all contained a paraf- ; ' fin base of from 20 to 30 per cent par-' : i- affin. .The average yield of oil was ( & .from 40 to 50 gallons per ton. Ulah v - fields arc still snow covered and ) J have no recent comparisons from thto f state. s! "In anticipation of this demand on "LiJ ohr services which is already making itself felt, we have installed a new ' gold balance at a cost of $400, and ; we have equipped our laboratory 'with ', I, the best of apparatus for oil aid oil- ; shalo -determinations. January busi- ness was essentially on a par with that of January a year ago, but February j and early March have shown notable i increases oyer last year. The pulse '; Of the mining business is in a labora- tory such as ours, which receives ; work from all over the western coun- j try. It is because of this fact, that vc feel we can speak with so much assur- ance of the excellent business about j; to come." j1 R oo v I |
