As a resull of a campaign carried ' on principally by the national asso- elation of thp moving picture industry, indus-try, two bills have been introduced in Congress calling for two new coins, one of 2 cents and the other of 5 cent I The demand for these new coins has arisen by reason of the operation of the revenue laws, enacted to assist in the payment of war debt. Advocates of the measure contend that much time and Inconvenience can he saved I In such industries as the theater;-, telephone rind telegraph, railroad and soft drink establishments if the new coins ar placed In circulation. An act I of Congress April 22. 1851, created the ,'2-cent bronze coin, but it was discon-1 discon-1 tinued February 12, 1ST?,. Less than $1,000,000 of these coins were issued. Many of there coins were in circulation circula-tion in the early nineties. Then there was the silver 20-cent i piece of 1875, but there were few of i ' these coins minted and nobody seemed to miss them after they were with ' drawn. Man are objecting to adding to the i number of our coins. There is a be- : lief in some quarters that with the ad ! vent of the 2-cent coin, many arti- v?les now selling for r ceurs will be boosted to 7 cents as soon as the American begins lo carry around a pocketful of 2-cent pieces |
