The advance price on domestic coal has not been decided, but slack will cost hereafter $2,25 at the mine Instead In-stead of $1.85, with the same freight, war tax, delivery and dealer's profit1? applying. According to the coal operators, oper-ators, slack coal is handled now. at a loss, It being claimed that $1.85 does not meet the cost of production. This price was fixed by the government and despite the increased cost of production produc-tion operators" wore not permitted to charge more. With restrictions to be removed the operators announced last night that the new advanced prices would go into effect April 1. Operators said last night that domestic do-mestic coal users would be permitted to participate for another month in the present price. -Last Wednesday President Wilson's bituminous coal commissioin issued a warning to the public "against unnecessary un-necessary coal buying in April, immediately imme-diately after government restrictions are raised." "In the matter of purchase and 'storage 'stor-age of coal," said a statement issued by the commission, "the thing to be avoided during the month of April Is a temporary peak in prices before it becomes possible to restock the coal bins of the country. For that reason tho purchase and storage of coal by the public should be carried on in May, Juno and July, instead of April. The less unnecessary business done in April tho less chance for a flurry In coal prices." The present prices of domestic and commercial coal are ?8.25 and $5.10 the ton respectively. Domestic coal at the mine costs $3.65 with $2.10 added for freight, six cents for war tax, $1.25 drayage and $1.19 dealers' profit. Slack sells at the mine for $1.85 (fixed by government regulation), ?1.S0 is added for freight, five and a halt cents for war tax, seventy-five cents for delivery and sixty-five cents dealers' profit. nn i |
