Show TRAVELERS STOP IN OODEN AND ADVISE THE PLACING j OF OGDEN SIGNS ON HIGHWAYS .1 Fame of the free canipins pnound at Jones Grove has spread far and wide over the country and au;o tourists are advising those whom they meet on the way from the oast or from the west to come by "way of Ogden instead of Salt Lake City, f.ccording to statements of auto tourists who were camped at the grove this morning. Tuesday night was a record night at the camp ground, but the number bad fallen considerably 1 ' .mm.' number of those who were -,t the canip this morning had been there for several sev-eral days. Among them were Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Mensch of WilUamsport, Pennsylvania, who are on their way tp the coasi, and have decided to remain to take in the scenery and to get a good rest before resumintr their tedious journey. These people state that the found Kood roads all across the country from Pennsyhania to western Nebraska, but that nowhere had they found better roads than after leavinrr Echo and eoming on the 47-mile stretch to Ogden from where the Lincoln Highway branches ofr to Salt Lake. They stale that the inhabitants, a? well a. tourists, tour-ists, advised them to leave the Lincoln Highway at ihe point where the highway high-way tunas over the high divide, and to mak" straight for Ogden And now we are not going to Salt Lake at all," said these people tin (morning. "We shall go bj the northern north-ern route, for we are advised to do so by all travelers. There have been ! enough tourists fooled into going over , i he southern route to spread the word broadcast across tho count n to take the Ogden road from Echo and the northern route through Wells, Nevada, and on west, making a detour south by way of the Williams ranch at Palisade, Nevada. ' No Ogden Signs "Now Lhax you people have done so I much for the tourist, .-aid Mr. Mensdh, 'let mi sucrgest that our commercial body, or whoever should do so, to have a large s.ign put up at the junction point where the highway branches Wer the high divide to Salt Lake. All there is to guide one is a small sign that can hardly be read, giving the impression that Ogden counts for little so far as travel is concerned. I think thrt sicn there now simply says it i 17 mile-;, or maybe 5", to Ogden. "If your people would have a good sized sign put up there it would divert still much more travel this way, for many people travel by map and ask few questions. Such are sure to take the high divide, thereby missing the excellent road. "And if it is not too much for me to suggest. I would like to call attention to the tart that where we came out of Weber canyon. I think it 13 seven miles I f rom the city, i here is not a sign to tell which road to take to enter the main J part of the town 1 understand all I roads lead in here, but still a sign 'pointing out the best road would re lieve the traveler of much anxietv I "And now I wish to say one more word of your campine ground. This is the finest thing we have struck slnco leaving Williamsport There is a comfort station at North Platte, Ne-Ibraska, Ne-Ibraska, and another at Cheyenne, but j neither of them (a in a the same fine I condition and so well kept as (is this one. Besides this is the first camping crround we have found anywhere that is lighted with electricity, and we have jtraveied across the confineut by auto before. We are going to the Pacitlc coast and will surely tell all whom we meet to come by way of Ogden. We do appreciate your hospitalit;. Another party was J. A. McCarthy and family of Sterling, Colorado, who were accomajucd by Samuel inraan of i SL'JosemX Mo., and Lcilt McCarthy uf Loa Angeles This party had been through the Yellowstone and is on the return journey to Colorado. Mr McCarthy advises all tourists who are going to tho park to go in through the west entrance, as the road from Idaho Falls to the outh entrance has recently been workenl and is in bad condition. E. C. Armstrong and wife of Los Angeles, California, were among those who camped at the grove last night Thev traveled up the Pacific coast to Portland, Oregon, and are on their way to Denver. Thn roads are fine from Portland lo Ogden," said Mr. Armstrong, "and, if any one desires a nice trip by au'o that is one. There are only one or two bad spots In the whole Journe. and the excellent and beautiful country repay re-pay for them One bad spot ia a Band hill near The Dalles on the Columbia river, and there may be one or two other httle sand spots, but they didn't amount to much. This sand hill is ailed tfoiser Hill" and it is just outside out-side of The Dalles. We found he Maupin grade to be in fine condition " Mr. and Mrs Leonard Francis, of Dloomington, Iowa, who intend to r--main here for awhile, are also camped at the grove Mr Francis has a brother residing at Garland, Utah The family may locate in this ski; and possibly in ugeien One party is traveling bv team This is W.
