Show TWO ATTEMPTS MADE TO BURN SCHOOL HOUSES Attempts were made Saturday nigh, to burn the Dee and Mound Fort 'schools, according to the report of the police In both case, the police re-i re-i port, the fire bug answered the de-si de-si i iption of th one who had fired several of the buildings 4n the north- in part of the city. The attempt at the Mound Fort school was thought j to have been made shortly before In o'clock Saturday night while the lire at ilv fec school was discovered at 10 20 o'clock. But for the prompt action of John Doxey, residing near the Dee school, the structure probably would have been much damaged When the Doxey fam'.L returned from a nxiur? show shortly after 10 o'clock, flames i were shooting up from the rear door. Mr. Doxey ran for a bucket of water and extinguished the fire and then he notified the police. Upon Investigation Investiga-tion i was found that oil waste Irom the box of a railroad car had been packed intDO the corner of the door frame and Ignited. The fire had started to burn up when discovered. Several girls plav-( plav-( ing near the school gav a description descrip-tion of a man they saw go to the i rear of the school building shortly before the discovery of the fire. The description tallies with th5t of the one who set fire to tbe junk house and the macaroni factory and the Humphrla mm The fire at the Mound Fort school was discovered yesterday morning. The attempt there was made by opening one of the windows and s'uf fing an armful of newspapers into the window frame and lighting them. The window was then closed, and probabl due to the fact that there was no draft, after the paper bad burned the window shade it died out. The report of the fire was made by a nearby resident and was investigated investi-gated by Detective Robert Chambers. |
