Show CRIMSON OF UTAH , EXPECT GREAT GRIDIRON YEAR Prospects of a championship foot ball team at the University of Ctah this year appear quite bright. Four 'letter men who performed In 1P17 for the Crimson are booked to return, and. with a number of former high school , stars who entered the university last year. Coach Fitzpatrlck has an abun dance of experienced material wi'h which to work The four wearers of the "C" who will in all probability don the mole skins for the varsity this year are Maurice (Tiny) Roche. Harold (Bfshi Kay, Blondy Thorum nd Ed Howells. ull stars of tbe first class. Roche i.s a lineman with several years experience. He can work equally equal-ly well in eliher the guard or tackle position, and the line this year w ill be I molded around this veteran. Roche ilunnc the Ifil7 season made a name for himself, showing clas especially on the offense. Kay. Thorum and Howells are all back-field men. Kay and Howells have 'played half, while Thorum s position, lis at full. A number of promising men iaro out for quarter, which will iom-Iplete iom-Iplete a bafkfield hard to beat in the I west. Foremost among the new men Is I Mil Romney, formerly of the East hish Ilomnoy can perform at either quarter OIhsJf. While plavin on the East high eoen Romney was picked for all-state quarter Ho wras the win ner of the F. C. Richmond medal in' his Junior year. Ralph Stewart, subquarier in 1917. and Stubby Gary of the frosh squad are other promising candidates for the pilot position. Both are. speedy on! their feet and quick thinkers. Some former Granite stars are Stevenson, Jenson and Simmons. Stevenson Stev-enson has showed much class at the end position, while Jenson and Simmons Sim-mons have worked behind the 1 1 n a-well a-well as on end Silver. Now ells. Gilmer and Ottinger are East high men who will fisht t . . r a place on the line. Gilmer and t linger are tackles. Nowells a guard and Silver a center. All four of these men were on the East high team that won the stale football championship In 1917. Swan. Reeves, Ballard, Johnson.! Culp, Woodbury, Win.
