REEFING RAID Because of the growth of the work of the Helping Hand Information bu reau. conducted by Mrs. Emma Montgomery, Mont-gomery, who receives only a small sum each month from the city, it is stated that the bureau must receive aid or be closed. In making this announcement, Mrs Montgomery states that she cannot do the work alone and must have an as sistant. Many prominent, citizens are familiar with the work that Mrs. Montgomery Mont-gomery has carried on for nearly two years and she has been highly commended com-mended for her unselfish efforts to serve those who are in distress. The various churches, the police, th' sheriff's office and organizations of the city send people to the Helping Hand bureau for assistance, and Mrs. .Montgomery, while she generally finds places for all who call on her, states that her duties necessitate from 13 to lc hours work each day. Some days she has to hire an assistant in the work. During the month of June, Mr Montgomery was visited by 114 persons, per-sons, all of whom wanted work. The majority of them were placed in work of some kind. In addition to the calls, she has attended several cases of per sons reported ill and has also assisted several persons in need of a friend. She states that without an assistant she will have to discontinue the work as it is too strenuous stren-uous for her to devote such long hour3 to the labor. oo |
