Show I SHERIFF IS WIG I MEN FOR WYOMING I . OFFICERS Hi 1 In the arrest of R. H. Bryant, to-1 H pettier with J. R. Ockey and Ulmont Burdiek, made by Deputy Sheriffs Di k Wootton and W. H. Rowder, yesterday yes-terday afternoon, the officers believe they have in custody the fhurderers of I, ;i man at Thennbpolis, Wyoming, on August 1. The murderer is said to b-:-H Bryant, whose des( ription fits that of H "Red" Devine, and who admitted to Sheriff H C Peterson today that he H was sometimes known as Clint De-H De-H ne and often called 'Red' by his companions. I The arrest of the trio was made H following the identillcation of Devine upon the street by an Ogdcn man. who H had recently been through Wyoming H Thetrio treated their arrest lightly yes-J yes-J terday and said it was ridiculous to H think that they had been in Wyoming, Hi lirn they .ame from Ely, Nevada, recently, re-cently, where they had been emploj ed H in the mines and smelter. This morning, after a night of deep restlessness, both Bryant and Ock-?y Mere nerous. During his examination by Sheriff Peterson and Deputies Lowder and Wootton, Ockey was ex-j ex-j tremely nervous and when questions were asked him of his presence In j Wyoming he broke down, and wept i He protested his innocence and claim ed that he did not know for what reason rea-son he was being held by the officers. Following the arrest of the trio last night. Sheriff Peterson sent telegrams to officers at Rawlins and Thermopol-j Thermopol-j is. The first reply was from Rawlins and was as follows: Hold Red Devine and Kyle. Both Hj wanted for murder. $100 reward nn each. Sheriff Holdredge will start tomorrow. to-morrow. (Signed) A. Kyle described as English, five foot nine in bare fct Lare medium brown eyes, complex ion medium dark hair chestnut cr brown. Srnr left index finger Have warrant firs! degree murder. ' With only a slight difference of about two inches in height, Ockey fits the description of Kyle mentioned in the telegram He has a scar slightly over an inch in length across the base of ihe left index finger. His hair and I eyes tit the description as does his weight. In answer to the question of the I sheriff this morning. Ockey said tht j he did not know Devine or Bryani very well, but admitted (hat the lat-ter lat-ter was traveling with him and th'it b( was paying his railroad fare, meal ; and lodging. 'He did not know his name there and when he arrived in Salt Lake, about ten days ago. he met Bryant again and hegan paying h'v way. He denied that he had been in any trouble in Wyoming, stating that recently ho had been in Nevada. He denied ever having gone under an alias When he was called "Red" by Sheriff Peterson. Bryant became con fused and then admitted, under further questioning that he was sometimes called "Red" Devine, and further admitted ad-mitted he was called Clint Devine, but never went by the nam of C. A. Dc vine. Telegrams were sent to Sheriffs Hoi dredge and Sanders giving a minute description of the men. It is believed the yorulng officers will arri e in Og. den tomorrow afternoon. |
