Show INVESTIGATION OF THE HIGH I COST OF LIVING IS NOT 10 BE UNDERTAKEN BY THE CITY Upon the recommendation of W. H. Reeder, cit attorney, th' city commis sion today filed the petition of the Retail Merchants' association, asking for a thorough investigation of the high cost of living as it applies to the sale of all commodities. The city attorney explained that the investigation was a matter f r the state authorities and not one Mml Came properly under the city's juris diction. In connection with the petition of John S. Lewis and others, asking for the widening of Merchants' alley, the city attorney recommended that the abutting propertj owners mnke dedication dedi-cation plats and bin up the propcm necessary for the improvements. The city attorney held that the condemnation condemna-tion method of procedure was too ex- pensive to warrant the cji unnrr taking the work. His recommendation adopted Claim Denied The claim of James E. Thurston for $39 90, alleged to be due from the city for damages to his automobile on Washington avenue, -nas denied. t'ity Attorney Reeder subnurt-d the approved ordinance for the licensing and regulation of emplovment bureaus and the ordinance was submitted to the committees of the whole for nc-' tion.
