Show WHITE MEN TO BLAME. Recent Fight In Wyoming Provoked by Officers. Says Indian Agent. The report of Charles S. MeNlrhnls, special Indian agent, who waa detailed to lnvotlnnto tho recent fltht between be-tween Indians and the Wyoming sheriff sher-iff and poaso nt Lightning creek, Wyo mlng, has been received by Commissioner Commis-sioner Jones and substantiates former reports that the whites wero entirely responsible for tho trouble McNIch ols's account of the Incident says the sentlmont of the community from which the posse was sent la very bitter against Indian Agent Ilrennnn, who telegraphed particulars of tho Incident to the department and added that the whites were to blame. The trouble arose, McNIchols says, ovor the question raised by the whites that the Indians woro unlawfully slaughtering game, and Sheriff Miller of New Castle. Wyo., was sent to make ths arrosts. He mot twenty-eight Indians In-dians at Lightning creek and ordered them to accompany him back to New Castle. McNIchols says he has not been able to ascertain whether an Indian In-dian or white man fired the first ahot, but a fight followed the mooting, In which Sheriff Miller, Loula Falkenburg and four Indiana were killed. |
