Show Pistol Duel in Which Three Men Are Woundeo1 BINGHAM, Oct 15 Three men are in the hospital here as the result of a shooting affray at Phoenix, one Und a half miles from Bingham, at 7 o'clock tonight. Steve Melich, 155 year- of age, is probably fatally injured in-jured with a .38 caliber bullet wound In his head, and John Pantollnia. his alleged assailant, is suffering front a flesh wound In his chest. Tom J'-vich. J'-vich. 38 years of age, who Interfered during the shooting, sustained wounds in Ins right hand and a flesh wound in his head. The shooting occurred when Melich, who is a clerk at the Serb Mercantile store, reached home and found his daughter, Sophia, 15 yearR of age. missing lie went io the house occupied occu-pied by Pantolinia and there Is alleged al-leged to have found his daughter ami Pantolinia together. As Pantolinia Panto-linia continued to fire his weapon upon the prostrale body of the girl's father, Pavich interceded and" was hot In the band and head, witness. say. His injuries are slight. The shooting was the culmination of a quarrel between Melich and Pantolinia Panto-linia over the latter'a attention io Melieh's daughter The girl was a ward of the Juvenile court and only al month ago returned from the girls'; detention home Pantolinia is an Italian and Is em ployed at the Utah -Apex mine as a machinist Following Die shooting he started for the county sheriff's office. He was placed under arrest before reaching l here, by Mr Fullmer, who had been notified of the shooting by telephone. Pavich is a fellow worker with Melich Me-lich in the Serb Mercantile store. The shooting was witnessed by several sev-eral persons, among them beinq Lea Roach. 16 years of age. and Nick Bog-don, Bog-don, a miner. Both were questioned by members of the sheriff's office at Bingham for a correct account of the affray. Sophia Melich, the girl over whom the controversy arose, is hys- jterical and under a physician's eaio. The bullet, which physicians say probably will end Meluh's life, entered enter-ed above the left ear and ranged toward to-ward the back of the head. An operation opera-tion was performed. oo |
