Show 'Only Skilled Mechanics, Adopted to Shipbuilding Work, Wanted in Oregon Ore-gon Yards. , WASHINGTON, Jan. 23. Reports of a general labor shortage in the Oregon shipbuilding districts was declared unfounded un-founded today by the employment service of the department of labor which issued a general warning to skilled workmen in other parts of the country not to 'attempt to seek employment em-ployment in those yards without first communicating with the federal employment em-ployment office at Portland. "0;ily skilled mechanics adapted to shipbuilding work are needed now at the Oregon yards," the warning said. "Shipwrights, ship fitters and calkers j can safely -proceed without delay, if! Bthey are experienced in ship work. All j others should not believe that a job I Is awaiting them. It is believed by early spring a large number of loggers will be needed in that region. Loggers should register with the Portland of-Bfice of-Bfice now but should not go to that sec-tion sec-tion until notified." |
