Show otr TWO US OF FIRE Olffi THE HOLIDAY Fire Chief George A. Graves is congratulating con-gratulating the public upon the response re-sponse it made to bis appeal for tho exercise of care in. an effort to prevent pre-vent Christmas fires. Only two fires were reported last night and those of minor consequence. One alarm came at 9 o'clock when a street car motor blew out and caused a stampede among the passengers. The incident took pjace on the Twentv-fifth Twentv-fifth street hill. Tho other came from tho homo of I. Sander. 2032 Ballan-tyne Ballan-tyne avenue, where a lighted candle set fire to a Red Cross flag. The damages in each instance was slight "Extreme caution must have been taken by the people," said Chief Graves. "Only one fire, for the street car blow-out cannot be termed a fire, in a city of thousands of homes on Christmas eve is a remarkable record. The only way, however, to prevent fires is to exercise good judgment and constant care. It is apparent that the people of this vicinity did that and, In consequence, the average damage by fire during the holiday is so low as to be practically zero." |
